About Glen Rose, TX

Glen Rose is a thriving community of around 2,500 residents near the Brazos River, southwest of Fort Worth. The seat of Somervell County, Glen Rose (then known as Barnard’s Mill because of the three-story gristmill that hummed to life along the Paluxy River) was first settled in 1849 when Charles Barnard opened a trading post near Comanche Peak.

The town’s name was changed to Rose Glen in 1871, and the residents later voted to change the name to Glen Rose.

Glen Rose is rich in history and has a character all its own. The area’s mineral springs attracted many healers to the area in the early 1900s. Later in the century, Glen Rose became known as the “whiskey woods” capital of Texas due to its many moonshining operations during the Prohibition era.

Home prices fall all across the spectrum right now in the fast-moving Glen Rose, TX real estate market.

Many of our historic homes have been lovingly updated, though there are often some rustic farmhouses available for those looking for a restoration project. Newer and mid-century houses offer a variety of options for homebuyers, as well.
